While remaining historically strong, corn condition scores slid for the first time this summer.  The corn crop is rated 74% good-excellent vs. 76% last week and 70% last year.  The declines were most notable on the “wings” of the corn belt while steady to stronger in the middle.  The declines came from Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan in the east and from South Dakota and Nebraska in the west.

Soybean conditions were steady this week at 72% good-excellent vs. 63% last year.

Crop progress continues ahead of the 5-year average pace. Corn in the dough stage is at 53% vs. 44% last year and 42% on average.  Soybeans setting pods are at 69% vs. 65% last year and 61% on average.

On Friday, August 12th, USDA will release their August WASDE report where we will see their estimated crop production based on field survey data.
