LAKE PEPIN ICE MEASUREMENTS

The US Army Corps of Engineers made their first ice measurement on Lake Pepin for the season.  Lake Pepin is typically the last barrier to open navigation on the upper Mississippi River.

They measured over 16 miles covered by ice with much of it close to 30 inches thick.  This isn’t too surprising with the cold temperatures experienced this winter.   The next measurement is scheduled for March 7th.

Here is their report: Ice report 2018-2-21
