The pace of corn and soybean harvest is picking up around the country.  NASS estimates that the corn harvest is 14% complete vs. 13% last year and 11% on average.  Soybean harvest is 13% complete vs. 10% last year and 8% on average.

Generally favorable weather across the corn belt has created stable and favorable crop conditions which is driving production estimates higher calling for national yield records this year.  Corn condition scores were unchanged this week at 67% good-excellent vs. 59% a year ago.  Soybean scores were also unchanged this week at 68% good-excellent vs. 59% last year.

Corn and soybean condition scores slipped from their initial lofty levels.  In this week’s report, the corn crop is rated 72% good-excellent vs. 74% last week and 55% last year.  The soybean crop is rated 70% good-excellent vs. 72% last week and 54% last year.

This week, NASS published their first national soybean condition report.  They rated the soybean crop 72% good-excellent vs. 59% last year.  Corn conditions slipped to 74% good-excellent vs. 75% last week and 61% last year.

This week’s report featured the debut of national corn condition scores.  The corn crop is starting out very highly rated at 75% good-excellent vs. 64% last year.

As planting progress nears completion, more of the emphasis is on condition scores.  Corn planting is 91% complete vs. 95% last year and 89% on average.  Soybean planting is 78% complete vs. 89% last year and 73% on average.

Corn and soybean planting is moving ahead at or just ahead of the 5-year average pace.  Corn planting is 83% complete vs. 89% last year and 82% on average.  Soybean planting is 68% complete vs. 78% last year and 63% on average.

May 19th Crop Progress Report

Planters were busy last week as they made up some ground catching up to the average planting progress.  NASS reported the corn crop is 70% planted vs. 76% last year and 71% on average.  Both Minnesota and Wisconsin are ahead of average and last year’s pace.  Soybean planting is 52% complete vs. 61% last year and 49% on average.

Corn and soybean planting progress forged ahead despite wet conditions in some areas.  NASS reported corn planting is 49% complete vs. 60% last year and 54% on average.  Soybean planting was reported 35% complete vs. 45% last year and 34% on average.

After a year where many areas experienced drought, rains have been welcomed this spring.  However, it may have been a little too much of a good thing recently as corn and soybean planting progress slowed last week.  NASS reported corn planting is 36% complete nationally vs. 42% last year and 39% on average.  Soybean planting is 25% complete vs. 30% last year and 21% on average.

Corn and soybean planting quickly advanced in the past week.  NASS reported that corn planting is 27% complete vs. 23% last year and 22% on average.  Soybean planting is estimated to be 18% complete vs. 16% last year and 10% on average.

Corn and soybean planting is underway and so are the Weekly Crop Progress Reports from NASS.  Corn planting is estimated to be 12% complete vs. 12% last year and 10% on average.  Soybean planting is 8% complete vs. 8% last year and 4% on average.
