Agronomy Location Admin & Operations Assistant
Job Summary:
This is a full-time position to support the existing Location/Operations Manager’s role and their duties. Responsibilities will include duties relating to supporting operations of the Agronomy department and location as directed by the Location Manager. Regular hours vary and extended hours are necessary during peak times and as business dictates. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. You may be asked and expected to perform other related duties as and where assigned to meet the organization’s ongoing and/or changing needs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Take primary responsibility for the point-of-sale and basic accounting activities of the location by invoicing customer sales & returns of product daily, entering product inventory receivers, product transfers, assisting with the inventory process and daily edit and deposit/balance processes
- Answer and direct phone calls coming into the office line, assist walk-in customers and promote customer service excellence by being a professional resource to all customers
- Assist operations within the dry plant, liquid/chemical warehouse, and seed warehouse: blending orders & loading trucks, filling tower, receiving & warehousing product, delivering product, sorting, assembling & staging orders for grower pickup/delivery, completing records & documentation, executing location & dealer transfers, and inventory control functions
- Be prepared to fill in as primary dry fertilizer, liquid warehouse, or seed treater operator as needed
- Housekeeping and simple maintenance & repairs all around the facility
- Regularly and effectively communicate with operations and sales staff to intentionally align priorities, expectations and capabilities; ensure product and facilities are ready and available to customers in a timely fashion
- Understand, follow and help other team members follow all regulations
- Provide feedback to identify problems and develop practical solutions.
- Other tasks and projects assigned by management as workload dictates
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with others, including supervisor, managers, co-workers, and customers.
- Tech-savvy with excellent computer, electronic and mechanical skills. Able to learn and operate automated blending control programs, invoicing software, crop-planning programs, etc.
- Have thorough knowledge of point-of-sale & supporting accounting principles and internal standards to timely, accurately & thoroughly complete invoicing and inventory processes including customer invoicing, location transfers, inventory count & adjustments, receivers, etc.
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment, work well under pressure or stressful situations and have great problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated drive, self-starter motivation and initiative. Learn and recognize what needs to be done and do so without direct supervision or direction.
- Keen attention to detail, organized, and accurate work.
Education, Certification, Experience:
- Chemical Handler license minimum requirement; Custom Applicator License with seed treater endorsement preferred
- Basic Agronomic knowledge, ability to make sound fertilizer and chemical product and rate recommendations for walk-in customers
- Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude
- Understand and comply with pertinent OSHA, DATCP, DOT, EPA, DNR, FAA, and other regulations.
- CDL with Tanker endorsement preferred; Seasonal Farm Service License may be accepted
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily and seasonal demands.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to work in outdoor and indoor environmental conditions typical for the location and role (extreme heat or cold, high humidity, direct sun, grass, wind, dust, fumes, odors, moderate to loud noise levels, uneven surfaces, and various heights.)
- Moderate to heavy lifting (60 lbs.) is required regularly.
- Able to reason, make sound decisions, and react quickly to changing conditions and new information throughout the day with minimal direction or supervision.
- Visual acuity (need to prepare and analyze data, transcribe documents, view a computer, read, inspect objects, and operate machinery.)
- Able to balance, climb ladders, perform tasks at elevated positions, and work near moving equipment.
- Able to regularly perform all job functions at designated worksites.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull.
- Meet the physical and mental demands of working seasonal long hours, climbing ladders, repetitive heavy lifting, and prioritizing multiple tasks during peak workload times.
- Work efficiently while always keeping yourself and others safe.
