Feed Logistics & Customer Service Specialist


Job Summary:

The Feed Logistics & Customer Service Specialist position is the vital link connecting inventory and customers’ orders with timely delivery. This role requires proactive communication with customers, efficient delivery planning, and optimizing logistics operations to ensure outstanding service. This is not an all-encompassing list of duties and other duties may be added based on business needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Proactively contact customers for scheduling recurring deliveries and identify specific needs. Gather feedback to continuously improve service.
  • Collaborate with our customer service team to accurately take, place, and invoice customer orders. Promptly notify relevant parties of any sales order changes or requests and respond quickly to customer inquiries to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Use available technologies to analyze logistics data, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Work with dispatch to optimize delivery schedules and provide necessary information to ensure effective truck use and even out workloads for efficient workdays. Optimize feed trucks daily delivery routes, considering factors such as tonnage, truck capacity, driver hours, and urgency.
  • Assist in managing inventory and coordinating with production teams to ensure product availability and meet order requirements. Help forecast bagged feed and inventory needs.
  • Communicate effectively with employees throughout the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall business operations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Self-motivated leader with a positive and professional attitude, and be highly organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional and friendly customer service, ensuring positive interactions and building strong relationships.
  • Strong analytical skills to help manage inventory, recognize trends and proactively spot and solve problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to keep everyone informed and work well with others.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment, with strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate in work.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team, and adapt to changing workloads.

Education and Experience:

  • Prefer agricultural background with feed industry knowledge and prior customer service experience and basic accounting skills.
  • Experience using accounting systems; knowledge of AgVantage or Feed Mill Manager is a plus, or experience with sales order processing, inventory management, and purchasing systems.
  • Proficient with standard office software (such as Outlook, Excel & Word) with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Must speak English and eligible to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods while operating a computer and telephone.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and other computer-related tasks.
  • Capable of light to moderate lifting.
  • Occasional travel to other company locations may be needed.
  • Using common office equipment, multi-line phone, computer, printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, etc.
