Feed Production & Grain Operations
Job Summary:
This position’s primary responsibility is feed production, including manufacturing bulk and bagged feed, monitoring quality, and maintaining accurate production records. The role also supports grain operations during harvest and other peak periods by loading and unloading trucks, and handling grain. Work hours may vary depending on production schedules, harvest demands, weather, and business needs. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage bulk and bagged feed manufacturing while ensuring it is accurate and high quality.
- Check ingredient weights to ensure each feed batch is accurate.
- Monitor feed quality during production and report errors or product concerns.
- Gather, inspect, label, and keep a sample of each incoming bulk ingredient.
- Keep accurate records as required by the Feed Safety Plan.
- Keep equipment and feed utensils clean and in good working condition.
- Report errors, defects, accidents, or violations to feed department management.
- Unload incoming ingredients.
- Check bills of lading and invoices to verify products received, shipped, or sold.
- Keep the warehouse and feed mill organized by rotating feed inventory on a first-in, first-out basis.
- Load bulk feed trucks and other vehicles safely and correctly.
- Keep feed ingredients, finished feed, and supplies stored in the correct locations.
- Follow company biosecurity procedures and feed-safety requirements.
- Assist with grain facility operations by loading and unloading trucks, handling and grading grain, and cleaning and preparing storage facilities.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following safety rules and participating in safety training.
- Provides basic maintenance and monitors equipment to ensure it is in good working order.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Able to work safely and effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, and delivery tickets.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure quickly and accurately.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with a positive attitude.
- Ability to follow formulas, production documents, safety rules, and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently, handle changing priorities, and finish tasks correctly.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn company systems.
- Ability to use or learn to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, loaders, and other facility equipment.
- Willingness to get a Class B driver’s license with air-brake endorsement.
Physical and Work Requirements:
- Able to stand, walk, climb, reach, and communicate throughout the workday.
- Must be able to perform heavy work, lifting 100 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
- Able to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull as needed.
- Comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders, grain bins, and grain legs.
- Able to work around moving equipment and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to see clearly up close and at a distance, and judge distances accurately.
- Able to adjust to changing traffic and weather conditions.
- Able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Able to work in dusty environments and around moderate to loud noise.
- Able to use hands and fingers to operate equipment, tools, and computer systems.
- Available to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during busy seasons.
