In-Shop Mechanic


Job Summary:

The In-Shop Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs of Ag Partners’ fleet of light- and heavy-duty trucks, application equipment, service & support vehicles in a shop environment. This is a full-time position based at Goodhue location. Regular hours are typically 8am-5pm, with extended hours during peak seasons (April, May, June, October & November). Travel to other locations may be required. This position is expected to support and back up the service truck on a scheduled or as-needed basis. This is not an all-encompassing list of duties; other duties may be added as needed with business need.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and determine best course of action to correct basic to complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues
  • Independently assess repair needs and determine temporary or permanent solutions to reduce downtime; communicate alternative repair approaches to the Shop Manager as needed based on skill availability, workload, or timing
  • Serve as a back-up to the Mobile Service Mechanic, including performing field repairs or operating the service truck as scheduled or as needed
  • Promote and follow safe work practices; identify, correct, or report unsafe conditions and behaviors
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, operators, supervisors, and vendors regarding equipment condition, repair status, and maintenance recommendations
  • Maintain accurate documentation for maintenance, repairs, inspections, and expenses according to company procedures.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment; present a positive company image
  • Be available to work during all scheduled on-duty and on-call times

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and related components.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, OEM software, and technical resources to troubleshot equipment issues both in mobile/remote and shop setting
  • Welding and fabrication skills applicable to equipment and vehicle repair
  • Understand fleet equipment needs and how the products handled impact maintenance requirements, service frequency, cleaning, PPE, and overall equipment performance.
  • Maintain technical skills and knowledge of practices and products; seek and attend relevant training and stay informed of evolving equipment, repair practices, and process updates
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, seasonal environment
  • Clear, professional verbal and written communications with drivers, operators, supervisors, vendors, outside shops & mechanics; including those with varying experience levels
  • Flexibility and willingness to do what is needed to complete tasks and support business needs across departments

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in equipment, automotive fleet, or diesel maintenance & repair required.
  • Automotive or mechanical degree, certification, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills in mobile and shop environments
  • Knowledge of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and basic welding/fabrication
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; ability to obtain and maintain Class A or B CDL, DOT physical, and drug screen.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 – 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, push, and pull for extended periods.
  • Work conditions may include dust, fumes, noise, uneven surfaces, varying heights, and changing weather conditions
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, mobile devices, computers, and standard shop equipment.
