(River Mile 770)
The US Army Corps of Engineers took their first ice measurements on Lake Pepin on February 12th. The ice on Lake Pepin usually remains as the last obstacle to the start of the river shipping season on the Upper Mississippi River. Lake Pepin is just downstream from our Red Wing Grain partner.
The cold weather a week ago generally added 2 to 3 inches of ice to many of the measuring points when the readings were recorded this week. On the bright side, there is a mile less ice at the head of the lake.
