Job Summary:

This is a full-time position. Regular hours are 8am-5pm (or similar) during the slow season, extended hours may be necessary during peak times and as business dictates. This individual will oversee shop employees- scheduling, assigning daily tasks, providing feedback, coordinating maintenance and repairs to a variety of equipment. This is not an all-encompassing list of duties; other duties may be added as needed with business need.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Providing maintenance (scheduled and emergency) to a variety of equipment. This includes LP and Fuel Trucks, Feed Trucks, Semis- Tractors and Trailers, Agricultural Equipment, etc.
  • Promote safety in the workplace; identify and communicate workplace hazards promptly, correcting unsafe conditions or actions as able.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Monitor department expenses, keeping in line with budgets and company goals.
  • Set up and monitor plant and equipment maintenance schedules, adhering to corresponding deadlines.
  • Respond to, assess, and diagnose equipment breakdowns, contacting service technicians as needed.
  • Maintain inventory records on repairs made and parts ordered; maintain and order parts as needed.
  • Oversee shop employees, assigning daily tasks, developing schedules, following up on tasks.
  • Assessing work performance, identifying area needing improvement.
  • Identifying and resolving inadequacies in processes; assist in developing ways to increase efficiency.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with management, department leads, operators, dealerships, and service technicians, etc.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical ability: able to perform and diagnose basic mechanical repairs and maintenance, troubleshooting; previous use of diagnostic equipment required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with trucks (diesel and gas) and heavy agricultural equipment; operation, maintenance needs, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of chemicals, fertilizer, etc. used within the company, handling and cleaning procedures, PPE requirements, dangers of, etc.
  • Welding & fabrication as part of the maintenance and repair processes above.
  • Excellent leadership skills and positive attitude; self-motivated and punctual.
  • Excellent capability to praise, motivate and lead technicians.
  • High level of organization, efficiency, and the ability to adapt, prioritize and delegate.
  • High attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a team or independently, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and ability to accept responsibility and accountability for job performance.
  • Ability to create and develop effective working relationships with employees having varying personalities, being a team player.
  • Delivering feedback to employees positively and constructively; both verbal and written, in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to do what is needed to complete tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to work early mornings/evenings and weekends during the busy season and as business dictates.

Education/Experience/Certifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform heavy work by lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Work conditions may include dust, fumes, moderate to loud noise levels, uneven surfaces, various heights.
  • While performing the duties of the job, it is required to speak, hear, see, and use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone, assemble, grasp, move, and control large and small objects.
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull.
