COVER CROP FIELD DAY ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12TH

A field day will be held at the farm of Tom Pyfferoen near Pine Island on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm.  Attendees will learn how Tom has used wheat, cereal rye, turnips and crimson clover on his no-till corn and soybean farm.

In addition, Tom will discuss how he has customized a conventional split row planter to no-till seed his cover crops.  Dan Nath, NRCS Soil Scientist, and Dean Thomas, Soil Health Technician, will demonstrate the benefits of cover crops and no-till management through several soil pits.

Attendees will also learn how to do a water infiltration test on their own land.  And, a rainfall simulator will show how differently managed soils impact runoff, infiltration and water quality.  TJ Kartes, Saddle Butte Ag, will discuss how to manage cover crops while avoiding residual impacts of herbicides.

Tom’s farm is located southwest of Pine Island at 53249 275th Ave, Pine Island, MN.  Click on the link below to view the flyer and map of the farm’s location. Cover Crop Field Day Flyer & Map.
