Crop Progress 10/7/18:
Wet weather moving across much of the country has taken its toll on the pace of soybean harvest. Soybean harvest has gone from being ahead of the 5-year average to behind the average pace now at 32% complete vs. 36% on average. Generally, the northwestern half of the country is behind while east and south are ahead.
Corn harvest is still ahead of average at 34% complete vs. 26% on average. Corn may slip behind in next week’s report as wet weather has stalled most harvest activity.

The 2018 corn and soybean harvest is moving forward with about one quarter of the crops harvested so far. While most areas are ahead of the 5-year average progress, the central belt has been moving ahead much quicker than the northern belt. Wet weather threatens to slow the pace in the upcoming week.

Crop Progress 9/16/18:
The 2018 corn and soybean crops are moving towards the finish line with 9% of the corn crop and 6% of the soybean crop reported harvested. Progress has consistently been moving ahead of the average pace ever since warm weather this spring and early summer pushed crops ahead of the average pace.
Condition scores also remain at or above 5-year average levels.

The corn and soybean crops of 2018 are moving toward harvest with 22% of the corn crop rated mature and 16% of the soybean crop dropping leaves this week. Corn conditions declined 1% to 67% good-excellent and soybean conditions were steady at 66% good-excellent.

Corn conditions were stable this week at 68% good-excellent and soybean condition scores improved from 65% to 66% good-excellent this week.
Progress is quickly moving ahead 10% of the corn crop is now mature and 7% of the soybean crop is dropping leaves.

Crop Progress 8/19/18:
Corn and soybean condition scores showed some more deterioration in the past week. Scores dropped more notably in western states due to hot and dry conditions. Corn conditions declined from 70% to 68% good-excellent and soybeans dropped from 66% to 65% good-excellent. Both figures are at the 5-year average for each crop at this time.
Progress is moving ahead of the 5-year average pace as both crops near maturity.

Rapid corn and soybean development point towards an early harvest and crop progress continues to run about a week ahead of the 5-year average pace.
Both corn and soybean condition scores declined another 1% in the good-excellent categories. The declines were evenly spread out around the country this week.

Crop Progress 8/5/18:
Weekly crop progress reports that the 2018 corn and soybean crops are continuing to cruise towards the finish line at about a week ahead of the average progress pace on a national level.
However, condition scores of both crops declined somewhat this past week. Scores dropped more in western states vs. eastern states. The corn crop is rated 71% good-excellent vs. 72% last week and 60% last year. Soybean scores dropped to 67% good-excellent vs. 70% last week and 60% last year.

Corn and soybean development continue to progress at a pace roughly a week ahead of the 5-year average on a national level.
While the trade was expecting crop condition scores to deteriorate some more as they have been recently, corn scores were steady at 72% good-excellent and soybean conditions improved to 70% good-excellent.

Warmers than normal temperatures continue to accelerate crop development with both corn and soybean progress moving along about 1 week ahead of the 5-year average pace of development. Condition scores are trending lower but remain better above average.
Corn Silking is at 63% vs. 37% last year and 37% on average. Corn conditions slipped to 72% good-excellent vs. 75% last week and 64% last year.
Soybeans Blooming are at 65% vs. 49% last year and 45% on average. Soybean conditions slipped to 69% good-excellent vs. 71% last week and 61% last year.

May and June temperatures in the corn belt rank near the top which has rapidly pushed along crop development. This week’s crop progress report shows that despite a slow start to the planting season, corn and soybeans are ahead of the 5-year average.
Corn % silking is at 37% vs. 18% last year and 18% on average. Soybeans blooming are at 47% vs. 32% last year and 27% on average.
While condition scores have dipped slightly, they are still on the high end of the range for this time of year. Corn conditions are 75% good-excellent vs. 76% last week and 65% last year. Soybean conditions are 71% good-excellent vs. 71% last week and 62% last year.

NASS reported the initial national soybean crop condition scores and much like the debut of national corn ratings last week, they were very good. The national soybean crop is rated 75% good-excellent. Corn conditions dipped slightly to 78% good-excellent vs. 79% last week and 68% last year.
