Corn and soybean crop progress remains on a pace similar to 2020.  However, overall crop condition scores declined this week with losses in the west more than cancelling out improvement in the east.  Corn condition scores declined to 64% good-excellent vs. 65% last week and 72% last year.  Soybean condition scores dropped to 58% good-excellent vs. 60% last week and 72% last year.

National corn crop condition scores improved to 65% good-excellent vs. 64% last week and 69% last year.  Soybean condition scores were steady nationally at 59% good-excellent vs. 68% last year.  Interesting to see large condition score declines in both corn and soybeans in the state of Illinois last week.

Corn condition scores showed further deterioration this week slipping to 64% good/excellent vs. 65% last week and 73% last year.  This biggest score declines came in South Dakota and Minnesota where dry weather has taken its toll on the crops.

National soybean scores were steady this week at 60% good-excellent vs. 71% last year.  Once again, the largest declines were in Minnesota and South Dakota.

Crop condition scores slid lower last week as the hot and dry weather was hard on corn and soybeans.  Corn conditions suffered double digit losses in Iowa and Minnesota.  Soybean conditions dropped substantially in Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota.

The initial soybean condition scores came in a little below expectations at 67% good-excellent.  Hot and dry conditions also took their toll on corn conditions as they dropped to 72% good-excellent vs. 76% last week and 75% last year.

The May 30th Weekly Crop Progress report featured the first look at corn condition scores.  The scores reflect the national crop is off to a good start as it is rated 76% good-excellent overall which is strong even compared to last year’s start at 74% good-excellent.

Corn planting is almost done at 95% complete vs. 92% last year and 87% on average.  Corn emerged is 81% vs. 76% last year and 70% on average.

Soybean planting is 84% complete vs. 74% last year and 67% on average.  Soybeans emerged are at 62% vs. 50% last year and 42% on average.

Weekly crop progress reports that corn and soybean planting and emergence continue to make rapid progress.  Weekly condition scores have not begun reporting nationally yet.

Corn planting is almost done at 90% complete vs. 87% last year and 80% on average.  Corn emerged is 64% this week vs. 61% last year and 54% on average.

Soybean planting is moving along quickly at 75% complete this week vs. 63% last year and 54% on average.  The warmer temperatures have improved emergence at 41% this week vs. 33% last year and 25% on average.
